Subject: Breakfast for Caritas

For this years’s goal of Social Awareness, the year 4 classes organised a Healthy Breakfast.  We collected money which will be sent to Caritas.  The children also appreciated the fact of how important it is to start the day on a good note and have a varied and healthy breakfast.  We immensely thank Ms. Mary Baldacchino, Ms.  Maria Genovese and Ms.Elaine for their help in setting up the breakfast items in such an artistic fashion.  The girls enjoyed this activity and learnt so many things out of it.
1.  The importance of having a healthy breakfast.
2.The importance of helping people in need.
3. Working as a team.
4.  Enjoying being together.
We are sure that the children will treasure this experience just as we will treasure it ourselves.   A big thank you also goes to the parents who are always so kind and generous.

Year 4 – Social Awareness Initiative

For this year’s Goal of SOCIAL AWARENESS, we are reminded of Sophie Barat’s inspirational words, “Be humble, be simple and bring joy to others.”

Through Social Awareness we acquire values, which emphasize ‘ Love’, ‘ Compassion’, ‘ Forgiveness’ and ‘Responsibility’.

For this year’s goal, each year level has chosen to create social awareness within our community. In YEAR 4 we are focusing on a person who has worked so hard to create a better SOCIETY – Monsignor Victor Grech, director of CARITAS.

Year 4 students will also take part in an initiative to collect funds and help raise money for Caritas. Every little helps and we can all do our part!

Here is a link that will help us appreciate Mons Victor Grech’s contribution to our society.

One of our initiatives this year was to focus on somebody who contributed so much to our society. In Year 4, we got to know so much about Dun Victor Grech who is mostly renowned for his sterling contribution to people in need, as the director of Caritas for countless years. We made research and prepared material. We worked in groups and enjoyed this team work activity. The final material is now beautifully displayed in our Year 4 corridor for all to enjoy.

Press Release from the Convent of the Sacred Heart School Foundation

 ‘He is my eyes.’

The Convent of the Sacred Heart School Foundation Junior School saw the beginning of this scholastic year with a very good introduction related to this year’s goal of Social Awareness.

Friday 4th October 2013 was a day which none of the girls will forget. Being the feast of St. Francis, and also keeping in mind the goal for this year- Social Awareness, the school hosted Mr.and Ms. Cristiano, together with Glen, the guide dog for Mr.Cristiano.

During this special assembly, Natalino Cristiano recounted how he lost his eyesight and explained to the girls how Glen was given to him. Mr. Cristiano explained that it is very expensive to train such dogs and that the Malta Guide Association receives funding from the Knights of Malta ( SMOM ).

Mr. Cristiano then added:

‘ and from then on, he never left me for one second. HE IS MY EYES!’

Children, teachers, LSA’s and staff, all followed the moving story and could appreciate Glen’s devotion to his master and how he followed every step he made. Mr. Cristiano, stressed the importance of everyone being aware of other people’s needs:

‘Please, always keep your pet on a leash, never leave rubbish bags in the middle of the pavement and always remind your parents to park where they should. In this way you will be helping me and Glen to move around safely.’

The girls asked so many questions and Mr.Cristiano patiently went into more detail to answer all their questions. During this assembly girls from Year 4 took photographs and as a follow up, girls from Year 5 and 6 will be preparing write ups which will be uploaded in the school twin space as part of the school’s Comenius and etwinning projects.

Thank you Mr.and Ms.Cristiano and well done Glen!  We all look forward to seeing you again in our school in the near future.
